Onyx
Onyx is a semiprecious stone with alternating black and white bands. It's often used in jewelry. Onyx is a chalcedony, which is a type of natural stone formation composed of intergrown minerals. In the case of onyx, the colours appear in bands, mainly in black and white.
In ancient Indian and Persian tales Onyx is referred to as a protector from evil. The Indian gemologists describe onyx as a protector for harmonious relationships. The stones' close union and yet strong contrast between the layers of black and white are considered symbolizing for the love between two people.
Onyx primarily refers to the parallel banded variety of the silicate mineral chalcedony. Agate and onyx are both varieties of layered chalcedony that differ only in the form of the bands: agate has curved bands and onyx has parallel bands. The colours of its bands range from black to almost every colour.
